Our Clergy

Congregation Neveh Shalom is blessed with an experienced and exuberant clergy. Religious services are led by Rabbi David Kosak, Rabbi Eve Posen and Cantor Eyal Bitton. Rabbi Emeritus Daniel Isaak and Rabbi Emeritus, Joshua Stampfer, also actively participate in the ritual observance of our congregation.

Rabbi Kosak has become known for his innovative educational programming, meaningful spiritual guidance and warm community outreach. He brings to Neveh Shalom a love of Torah as text, as experiential guide, as a source of wisdom and as map for building community. His answer when asked about his wife Laura and children Shayah and Amitai is simple: “My family rocks”.

Rabbi Eve PosenAssistant Rabbi
Rabbi Eve Posen brings warmth, approachability and energy to all she does, from working with our youth groups to teaching adults in coffee shops and pubs around the city.

Cantor Eyal Bitton
Cantor Eyal BittonCantor
Cantor Eyal Bitton is a composer, lyricist and playwright who has penned several musicals and oratorios which have been produced in Canada, the United States, Kenya and China. He has also directed adult and children’s choirs in Montreal and Toronto and has been the Musical Director of Toronto’s Zimriyah, a Jewish children’s choral festival, since 2008. He has been the cantor at Congregation Neveh Shalom since August 2017.

Rabbi Joshua Stampfer
Rabbi Joshua StampferRabbi Emeritus
Rabbi Stampfer has been Neveh Shalom’s rabbi from 1953 to 1993; At present he serves as Rabbi Emeritus and after 60 years at CNS still teaches his Talmud class every Tuesday.

Rabbi Isaak has led our congregation for 22 years. His dedication to our community has shaped our congregation, making it a warm, “haimish” place to be. Rabbi Isaak brings a love of study and a steady distribution of Dum-dums to his rabbinate.

Fred Rothstein
Fred RothsteinExecutive Director
Fred Rothstein came to Neveh Shalom in 2001 after a stint living in Israel with his wife Nora and three children. Fred brings leadership know-how from a rich career serving the Jewish community. Ask him about the L.A. Dodgers.
Angelina Peters
Angelina PetersAdministrative Director
A Midwesterner by birth but Oregonian by heart, Angie brings more than 20 years of finance and operations background to Neveh Shalom. In her spare time, Angelina is a writer, currently working on a novel series about the Whitehall Murders. She also enjoys photography and spending time in nature with her two boys and dog.
Mel Berwin
Mel BerwinDirector of Congregational Learning
Mel Berwin believes in a innovative, hands-on approach to Jewish learning, and brings this passion to her role directing the ALIYAH youth education program and adult education at Neveh Shalom. Mel has forged the way in the area of inclusion, bringing Neveh Shalom to the forefront as a congregation that welcomes every student and serves all needs.
Leah Conley
Leah ConleyDirector of Early Childhood Education
Leah Conley’s boundless energy and love for learning echo through the halls of our Foundation School. Under Leah’s vision, our preschoolers ask questions and think about the world around them in new ways. Learning runs deep and is tons of fun in Foundation School.
Dena Marshall
Dena MarshallDevelopment Director
A long-time Portland resident, Dena supports Neveh’s growth through fundraising and relationship building. An avid swimmer and traveler, she is the mother of two Portland Jewish Academy and BB Camp kids.
Lindsay von Colditz
Lindsay von ColditzMembership & Engagement Director
Lindsay von Colditz supports members and welcomes new members as well as runs programs and events, working with Neveh Shalom’s groups to create strong connections.
Kurt Rice
Kurt RiceFacilities Director
Kurt Rice helps to make sure the building is working well, clean and in good shape for the community. He is always striving to leave it better than he found it, with a tool at the ready and a can do attitude.
JoAnn Bezodis
JoAnn Bezodis Education Administrator
JoAnn Bezodis is a caring and highly organized professional. The friendly face in our ALIYAH program, she keeps all aspects of youth education running.
Lisa Richmond
Lisa RichmondClergy Assistant and Event Coordinator
Lisa Richmond wears many hats as our Clergy Assistant, Event Coordinator, and Facility Manager. Lisa will answer questions and assist in planning Jewish Life Cycle events from Brit Milah and baby namings, to B’nai Mitzvah, and weddings. Brian Rohr
Brian RohrCommunications Coordinator
Brian Rohr helps with the development of materials, flyers, The Chronicle and emails to bring information to the community.
Marg Everett
Marg EverettAdministration and Cemetery Administrator
Marg handles membership accounting questions and assists Administrative Director in her functions. She also works on cemetery reservations, troubleshooting issues at the cemeteries, unveilings and inquiries regarding family members in our cemeteries. In addition, she works with the Institute for Judaic Studies handling accounting and finance with the Executive Director. Contact Marg about your ACH processing.
Darlene Arntson
Darlene ArntsonAdministration
Darlene works with the Administrative Director, organizing and assisting to ensure timely processes of credit cards for congregants. She also does filing and organizing our offices. Please contact Darlene for credit card processing.
