Planning for the next 50 years: Emergency Resources Drive at CNS
Did you know CNS is a Red Cross-designated emergency shelter for our neighborhood?
Our school directors have outfitted classrooms for emergency lock-downs or evacuations. However, our congregation as a whole is not equipped in case we need to shelter a large number of people (children, congregants, or neighbors) for days or weeks. In order to be more fully prepared, we are collecting supplies for clean water, healthful food, and bedding, as well as creating space to store these resources on our campus.
There are three easy ways to contribute:
Click on this link to find many of the supplies we need, and have them sent right to CNS. You can also use this link to provide a gift card towards one of the more expensive items!
Here are a few more items we need. Click on the link and please send them directly to CNS, Attention Mel Berwin (2900 SW Peaceful Lane, Portland OR 97239).
- Instant milk (60 lb, 10 yr shelf life). Need 4.
- Instant peanut butter (10 yr shelf life). Need 4.
- 10# Mac & cheese (freeze dried, 30 yr shelf life). Need 20.
- Fleece blankets, 36 pack. Need 6 packs.
- S. Military Surplus Disaster Wool Blankets, 10 Pack. Need 5 packs.
Donate to CNS for the 150 Emergency Supply fund and we will put your donation towards our most-needed items.
As part of our 150 Celebrations, help us be fully prepared for whatever may come our way over the next 50 years!
We’ve spent time finding:
Food: kosher-ingredient, vegetarian, GF, and nut-free products for an overnight or an extended stay. Help us stock our storage with all that we need, from granola bars and instant milk to 25-year shelf life freeze dried vegan beans and rice.
Water: The water barrels and boxes we’ve found will provide fresh drinking water in case of an extended stay, plus filtration systems that would allow us to purify water from the nearby streams.
Shelter: We’ve found the best deals on comfortable fleece, protective mylar, and sturdy wool blankets so that we’ve got every season covered and anyone who needed shelter would have a comfortable place to sleep.
Consider preparing your own home with some of these products as you also help prepare CNS!
