Fred Rothstein came to Neveh Shalom in 2001 after a stint living in Israel with his wife Nora and three children. Fred brings leadership know-how from a rich career serving the Jewish community. Ask him about the L.A. Dodgers.
Director of Congregational Learning
Mel Berwin believes in an innovative, hands-on approach to Jewish learning, and brings this passion to her role directing the ALIYAH youth education program and adult education at Neveh Shalom. Mel has forged the way in the area of inclusion, bringing Neveh Shalom to the forefront as a congregation that welcomes every student and serves all needs.
Membership & Engagement Director
Michelle Caplan supports members and welcomes new members as well as runs programs and events, working with Neveh Shalom’s groups to create strong connections.
Director of Early Childhood Education
Leah Conley’s boundless energy and love for learning echo through the halls of our Foundation School. Under Leah’s vision, our preschoolers ask questions and think about the world around them in new ways. Learning runs deep and is tons of fun in Foundation School.
Development Director
A long-time Portland resident, Dena supports Neveh’s growth through fundraising and relationship building. An avid swimmer and traveler, she is the mother of two Portland Jewish Academy and BB Camp kids.
Finance Director
Allyson relocated to Portland from Northern Virginia with her husband and daughter. She comes to us from Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, DC where she worked as the Director of Finance and Administration for 10 years. Allyson is excited to get to know Portland and the members of Congregation Neveh Shalom over the coming year.
Facilities Director
Kurt Rice helps to make sure the building is working well, clean and in good shape for the community. He is always striving to leave it better than he found it, with a tool at the ready and a can-do attitude.
Education Administrator
JoAnn Bezodis is a caring and highly organized professional. The friendly face in our ALIYAH program, she keeps all aspects of youth education running.
Communications Coordinator
Brian Rohr helps with the development of printed and online communications materials, including flyers, The Chronicle magazine, and emails to bring news and information to the Neveh Shalom community.
Administration and Cemetery Administrator
Marg handles membership accounting questions and assists Finance Director in her functions. She also works on cemetery reservations, troubleshooting issues at the cemeteries, unveilings, and inquiries regarding family members in our cemeteries. In addition, she works with the Institute for Judaic Studies handling accounting and finance with the Executive Director.
Clergy Assistant and Event Coordinator
Lisa Richmond wears many hats as our Clergy Assistant, Event Coordinator, and Facility Manager. Lisa will answer questions and assist in planning Jewish life cycle events from brit milah and baby namings, to b’nai mitzvah and weddings.
