CNS is committed to welcoming all members of our community.
From our clear commitment to egalitarianism, our embrace of interfaith families, strong programming for our LGBTQ community and allies, to educational programs that are inclusive of all children and adults regardless of learning style or ability/disability, Neveh Shalom embraces the diversity within our congregation. We constantly strive to evaluate and improve the experience of our programming, services, and communications to be as accessible and effective as possible, and we welcome feedback on ways we could improve.
Physical Access and Single Stall restrooms
Two of our sanctuaries have single-level floors, and our Main sanctuary features a built-in ramp to the Torah service and Clergy lecturn. We are looking at plans to create access to the Aron Kodesch in the Main Sanctuary.
We have accessible ramps from the main courtyard to both sides of our building—the main office and the upper sanctuaries. The lower level is accessible on both sides of the building by elevators.
Our restrooms include single-stall, gender neutral restrooms near the main offices. There are baby-changing stations in single stall as well as men’s and women’s restrooms, and all restrooms include wheelchair-accessible stalls.
Inclusion in Education
Our ALIYAH K-12 program is an inclusive community that welcomes students across the spectrum of learning styles and needs. We work closely with families to create individualized learning plans as necessary and celebrate the achievements of each of our students based on their own abilities. We learn throughout our program that every individual has strengths and challenges and the beauty of a community is that we all gain from supporting each other.
LGBTQ community
CNS Keshet is our group for LGBTQ community members and allies. For information on our programs and resources, see our CNS Keshet page.
Interfaith Community
Interfaith and dual heritage families are welcome at Congregation Neveh Shalom. See our Keruv page for more resources and information.
The Welcoming Community of Congregations
Neveh Shalom is proud to be a member organization of The Community of Welcoming Congregations (CWC), an Oregon and SW Washington interfaith ministry and advocacy organization working toward full inclusion and equality for transgender, lesbian, bisexual, gay and questioning persons.
